What Documents Do I Need For Replacement Number Plates?
You’ll need to take the correct paperwork to your local store to get your new plates to get your number plates made. The law notes that you must have current proof of identity and proof of entitlement to the registration mark quoted to get new number plates.
If you reserve your plates online, once we have checked your documents in store, they can be made.
To be able to supply you with some legal number plates, at least one original document from each of the lists below is needed, i.e. you need to carry one document specified under ‘proof of identity’ and one from the ‘proof of entitlement’ list, required by the DVLA to prove that you are permitted to display the plate. Together, we must verify your name, address and vehicle entitlement with the two documents. There are only the following documents which we accept:
ID
- Drivers licence
- Bank/Building Society Statement no older than six months old
- Utility bill dated within the last six months
- National ID card issued by the Government
- Armed forces identity card
Remember – any identity proof document you carry needs to show your name and address, and we also need Proof of Entitlement.
If the two documents sent to us do not display your address, you may often need to include a third document for us to get your registration plates created. For example, if you show a debit card and V948, neither document shows where you reside, so you will need to carry in another specified document for proof of address.
Please note: these are legal requirements enforced by the DVLA, and, unfortunately, without the correct documentation, we will not provide you with new or replacement registration plates!
