What makes a number plate road legal?
UK law is specific about how a registration must be displayed. Our builder only lets you configure road-legal plates within the rules - but here is what those rules actually require.
A legal plate must have
- A white retroreflective front plate and yellow retroreflective rear plate
- Solid black characters in the mandatory Charles Wright font
- Correct character sizing and spacing for the vehicle type
- The BS AU 145e mark plus the supplier's name and postcode
- Durable, weather-resistant construction that stays readable
A legal plate must not have
- Altered spacing or fixings used to change how the registration reads
- Fancy, italic, or non-standard fonts
- Two-tone, patterned, or textured character faces
- A background pattern or tint behind the registration
- Anything that stops the plate being read by eye or camera

Are your number plates road legal?
Yes. Every plate in our builder is manufactured to BS AU 145e with the correct Charles Wright font, character sizing, retroreflective backing, and the mandatory supplier markings.
What documents do I need to buy number plates?
UK law requires suppliers to see proof of your identity (such as a driving licence or passport) and proof you are entitled to the registration (such as the V5C log book or a V750/V778 certificate). You can upload these securely during checkout.
How quickly will my plates arrive?
Weekday orders placed before 2pm with valid documents are dispatched the same day. Most UK customers receive their plates the next working day.
Can I order just one plate?
Yes. Choose front only, rear only, or a pair in the builder. Single plates are a popular choice when only one plate is damaged or faded.
Do you make plates for motorbikes and classic cars?
